HISTORY

In the summer of 2020, in the wake of #BlackLivesMatter, amid a global pandemic which was used to swipe so many other global injustices under the carpet, a group of people decided to take action. Inspired by the #BLM movement and enraged by the denial of institutional racism surrounding the Sanda Dia case a group of other academics in Belgian where contacted of which we knew they shared this sense of outrage. The response was positive and very inspiring. Within weeks, several dozens of scholars from educational institutions all over Belgium came together – online – for an empowering Zoom discussion. It was held in several languages and lasted several hours. No matter how overworked many of us are or how precarious, we all share a real commitment to making spaces of learning in academia inclusive and inspiring. This vision has now been translated into our mission statement.
